Sacred Music in Video

"Messiah"

In 1983, a color film was produced for BBC-TV featuring the performance, in the Westminster Abbey, of the "Messiah" oratorio, by the Academy of Ancient Music, under the direction of Christopher Hogwood.
Excellent soloists participated: J.Nelson, E.Kirkby, C.Watkinson, P.Elliot and D.Thomas.
With the concern to reproduce the style of presentation of Haendel himself, instruments from the XVII and XVIII centuries were employed, to the full score of 1754, not Mozart's instrumental arrangement.
The film appears to the TV spectator as though he were in the front row of the Abbey, with the instrumentalists and choir giving new grace to the music of Haendel, and new significance to the biblical texts. Back

"The Light - The Story of Our Christ"

In April of 1993, the première of the sacred opera "The Light - The Story of Our Christ" was presented by the First Baptist Church, in Orlando, Florida (USA).
The opera was recorded by the Church's video team - Chris Hincle, Richard Monn and John Adams - the beautiful libretto written by Wayne Johnson, composed and conducted by Ragan Vandegriff.
Besides the choirs, dozens of non-speaking participants enact the roles in this opera, in dress typical of the times of Christ.
Made up of 19 scenes, based on biblical texts, they recall, from the prophecies of Isaiah right up through to the empty tomb, the principal facts of the life of Christ.
Some friends of ours had the opportunity to see the staging of this opera. In that connection, Jim Henry, the pastor of the Church, wrote us: "We have friends from Brazil in our worship services often".
If you go to the United States, or should be in North America, make it a point of hearing the excellent musical presentations in this church in Orlando, Florida. Back
